Officials of the Ghana Fire Service have taken the staff and management of Global Media Alliance (GMA) and Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC) through basic fire safety principles to enable them manage any fire outbreak that may occur at their work places.
The service embarked on this fire safety management programme for workers of the organizations as part of the national campaign to equip the citizenry with the needed skills to manage incidents of fire outbreak.
Assistant Divisional Officer of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Fire Safety Unit, Ben O. Carlis-Paittoo, said the Ghana Fire Service is taking steps to reduce fire outbreaks in the country and it is necessary that people are equipped and encouraged to know basic fire fighting principles.
Officials of the service said the latest training programme has been designed to involve organizations, schools, markets, shops and other public institutions.
After a very well delivered exercise, management and staff of GMA and GMABC said the training programme afforded them the opportunity to enhance their knowledge on fire safety principles and boosted their confidence in fire-fighting which will go a long way to improve security measures in the company and even in their homes.
After the training, the officials revealed that some employees will be selected and trained to become fire wardens. The trained wardens will be responsible for detecting and preventing the occurrence of fire outbreaks, evacuating colleagues and other occupants to an assembly point in the event of fire.
Executive Chairman of GMA Mr. Edward Boateng thanked the fire service officials and emphasized that such safety precautions are very important and necessary to ensure maximum security especially in these times of rising number of fire casualties in the country.
