The Director-General of the TCC International Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Francis Davis, has pledged on behalf of the Centre to support the development of STEAM clubs in selected schools within the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly.

Speaking at a basic school event organized to commemorate the 2026 World Engineering Day celebration, Prof. Davis underscored the importance of nurturing scientific curiosity and innovation among young learners.

He noted that introducing structured STEAM platforms at the basic level would provide students with early exposure to practical problem-solving, creativity, and foundational engineering concepts.

“For us at TCC-CIMET, we believe that engineering is at the forefront of every country’s development. You are the future leaders of tomorrow, and that is why we are here today to introduce you to basic engineering principles that you can see all around you. This engagement will not end here. We are ready to support the establishment of STEAM clubs in your schools so that what you see today, you will one day design and build yourselves. It is important that we begin teaching you these things now,” he said.

He further emphasized that TCC-CIMET will extend its support to ICT teachers in the selected schools, ensuring they remain abreast of emerging technologies that can enhance their teaching and learning activities.

“For this initiative to be effective, we must ensure that the teachers who guide you in STEAM-related subjects are abreast of recent technologies. When they continuously enhance their knowledge and skills, they are better positioned to teach you in ways you can clearly understand and apply. As a Centre, we are willing and ready to support your teachers in this regard. This commitment will help sustain the effectiveness of the STEAM clubs in your various schools,” he said.

The celebration brought together 20 students each from Kentinkrono M/A Basic School, Weweso M/A Basic School A and B, Aprade M/A Basic School, Emmanuel Methodist JHS, and Ahmed Uwaisi Islamic Basic School.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, Hon. Anwel Ahmed Sadat, expressed the Municipal’s full support for the establishment of the clubs across various schools within the municipality.

He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing innovation, leadership, and practical skills among students.

“Countries that are making significant progress today are those that are heavily invested in Science, Technology, and Engineering. If we are to achieve the same level of development as a nation, it must begin with our younger generation particularly at the basic school level. That is why I deeply appreciate the organizers of this initiative for their forward-thinking vision. I want to assure you of the Assembly’s full support in all matters relating to this program and similar initiatives aimed at empowering our young learners,” he said.

The Municipal Director of Education, Ms. Dorothy Opare Baidoo, commended the organizers for the remarkable initiative and encouraged that it be expanded to benefit more schools across the municipality.

In 2019, the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed that World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development would be celebrated annually on the 4th of March each year. As we are all aware, the theme for the 2024 World Engineering Day (WED24) has been captioned “Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable World”.

TCC-CIMET as a UNESCO Category II Centre and an institution of excellence in the field of engineering, is taking the initiative to organize activities that highlight the significance of this day. These activities will be executed in the form of webinars and seminars in line with UNESCO’s capacity-building efforts. This proposal provides an overview of the various activities that the Centre will be organizing and the scope of the work involved.
