The first female chief of Bawku in the Upper East region has been speaking about her new strategy for easing the persistent tension in the area. Alasbuudi Ndebugri Abugrago Azoka who was installed in a historic ceremony last week says she will employ women as agents of peace. She describes her enstoolment as a big challenge, but one which she is nevertheless prepared for. “I have spoken to women already to talk peace; anytime they want to sing songs they should sing only words of peace; words that do not provoke anybody, so that if you understand the language and you hear the song you will know the song says we want peace.” She also advised the people to be tolerant and settle issues between themselves. Abugrago Azoka also hopes to support widows and orphans and end the practice of female genital mutilation in her area. Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
