A Tema Circuit Court on Wednesday fined four articulated truck drivers GH¢2,000 (20 million cedis) for plying the Tema Beach Road.
The drivers, Ado Boye, Maale Sowah, Ben Agoe Anum and Kennedy Chenedu, convicted on their own plea for neglecting road instructions were each fined GH¢500( five million cedis) or in default serve six months imprisonment each.
Police Chief Inspector Sarah Acquah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that personnel of Tema Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) on duty on the morning of Wednesday, August 22, arrested the accused persons.
She said the accused persons failed to comply with a sign board erected on the beach road by Tema Municipal Assembly restricting articulator trucks from plying the road.
Police Chief Inspector Acquah said instead of using the Tema motorway and paying axle load toll, the accused persons preferred to use the beach road against the assembly's directives.
