An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Kwabla Atokple, has officially filed his nomination to contest for the Volta Region’s seat on the Council of State.
Mr Atokple, who is the founder and CEO of the Tanko Foundation, has made significant contributions to developmental and humanitarian projects across the region.
He believes his vast experience in business, public-private partnerships, and community development makes him well-suited for the advisory role to the presidency.
Speaking after filing his nomination, Mr Atokple emphasized the importance of involving young people in governance and decision-making processes.

He noted that it was time for a shift in perspective, stating that the Council of State should not be perceived as an institution solely reserved for the elderly but rather one that welcomes competent and visionary individuals, regardless of age.
"It is high time young people took active roles in shaping government policies and solutions. Over the years, various portfolios have influenced government policies across different sectors, and we must continue to advocate for progress. The private sector plays a crucial role in national development, and I believe in strong partnerships between the government and private entities to drive meaningful change," he stated.
Mr Atokple refuted claims that the Council of State is not beneficial, arguing that it remains a vital institution for advising the president on critical national matters.

He encouraged delegates to vote massively for him, assuring them that his leadership would bring increased development in key areas such as business, tourism, the economy, education, agriculture, and health in the Volta Region.
"The Volta Region has immense potential that needs to be harnessed. Through strategic investments and policies, we can position the region as a hub for economic growth and development. My focus is to make the region more appealing for business and tourism while improving education, agriculture, and livelihoods," he added.
Atokple’s Tanko Foundation has spearheaded several development projects in the Volta Region, focusing on education, healthcare, and community empowerment.
His bid for the Council of State is seen as a move to bring his extensive experience and innovative leadership to the national stage.
