Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has reiterated his love for English side Sunderland and described the fans at Stadium of Light as “amazing”.
Gyan who joined the Black Cats last summer has been a hit in first season and was heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City last week.
Club chairman Neil Quinn has debunked media reports that the 2010 Fifa World Cup star will be sold.
Gyan finished as the club’s topscorer last term with 10 goals and four assists from 20 league appearances.
“Yeh, they gave me a warm reception. It was amazing. Since I go to Sunderland especially the fans, anything I do they appreciate it. They know how hardworking I am. Even if we lose, you keep on working hard,” Gyan told GHANAsoccernet.com.
Sunderland have promised to recruit a strike partner for the Ghana international who struggled to cope as a lone man upfront after Darren Bent was sold to Aston Villa.
