Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Mahama has lashed out at Ghanaian media, saying 99.5 percent of them are corrupt.

He said Ghana is failing in her fight against corruption because the media are corrupt.

According to Dr. Mahama, the media has become part of the corruption in the system thus the corruption in various sectors, which the media has failed in its bid campaign to help fight. 

"There are few people that I can name among the 0.5 percent who are not corrupt like Captain Smart. Some of the veteran media people were being listened to by people but some of them have switched parties and positions," said Dr. Mahama.

He bemoaned the media's haste to declare Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo as victor before the second round of the 2008 elections. 

He likened the media to a doctor diagnosing a patient saying "if you have cancer I have to tell you the truth, I shouldn't have to deceive you. If you know the facts then you will be able to fight it. If I tell you it' s just a headache or when your BP is shooting high and I tell you it is just fever or malaria before you realize you are down with stroke because I didn't you the truth."  

Dr. Mahama was speaking to journalists after a ceremony to formally confirm the parliamentary candidate for the Builsa South constituency at Fumbisi in the Builsa South district of the Upper East Region.

Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Alhassan Azong, got the nod to run for the third consecutive time ion the ticket of the PNC MP.

Speaking after his confirmation, Azong who contests against the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Dr. Clement Apaak, said he was confident of retaining the seat because the people still have confidence in him.

"I have been tried and tested and the people find me to be very reliable so they are crying for more," said Azong.

The MP also attribute his success to the unity he has been able to achieve in his constituency adding that "I don't help people based on parties, so because of my non-discriminatory posture, people think I am the right person to represent them."
