The Ghana Institute of Journalism(GIJ) has granted general amnesty to students who failed to register for the first semester of the 2020/21 Academic Year.
Affected students have up to Thursday, April 1, 2021 to complete their registration.
"They [affected students] should immediately produce their receipts at the Academic Affairs registry to complete registration processes," a statement signed by the Rector of the Institute said.
This follows a protest by students who contested a decision by the management to defer students who failed to meet deadline for registration.
In a statement signed by the Rector of the Institute, Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo said, management explained that it rescinded its decision on Thursday, based on a petition received from student leaders.
Agitated GIJ students picketed at the entrance of the Institute Wednesday, challenging a decision by management to defer students who failed to meet the registration deadline due to non-payment of fees.
According to the students, management had not been fair to them since they were not consulted before the decision was taken.
But management has dismissed the claims, insisting that it consistently engaged with students about payment of fees and registration since 2018, when students embarked on a demonstration on a similar issue.
According to the Rector, management at all times has operated a humane and open-door policy by listening to students and granting many extensions.
He said the Institute is also committed to working with students to achieve academic excellence in a spirit of cooperation, dialogue and mutual respect.
Meanwhile, the end of first semester examinations scheduled to start on 29 March 29, has been rescheduled to April 6.
