The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is satisfied with the sanctions meted out to students and teachers involved in riots in some senior high schools across the country.
The 14 students were dismissed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their involvement in riots which resulted in the destruction of property during the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The candidates have been dismissed from their respective schools and also barred from continuing with the ongoing WASSCE.
Three teachers have also been interdicted in connection with the incidents awaiting further investigations.
Speaking on Top Story, President of GNAT Philipa Larson welcomed the decision describing it as being in the right direction.
"I am happy with this. I think it should not end there," she told Evans Mensah on Friday.
She further indicated that the barring of the affected students from participating in this year's WASSCE is fair enough because "other times people are barred from a number of years."
On the interdiction of teachers for their alleged involvement, Philipa Larson believes that a thorough investigation by the authorities will help restore the honesty and integrity needed to effectively cleanse the country's education system.
She wants the law to take its course.
"The issue about indiscipline dishonesty and the rest that are criminal must be punished irrespective of who the perpetrator is... And so whether the person is a candidate or a teacher, I believe that definitely some investigation has been conducted," she said.
She was, however, now aware as to whether the affected teachers are members of GNAT.
