Former chairman of the Ghana football association Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has asked for Black Stars Coach Goran Stevanovic to be given a free hand to name his squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
According to him, there is undue pressure from the on the coach from the public which expects to see certain players make the shortlist ahead of the tournament.
“The coach must be given the free hand to pick his own team and he should also be the final say since he will be accountable to the team’s performance”. He told Joy Sports
Many football fans are hoping to see inform striker Emmanuel Baffour in the list of local players in the team.
These fans have also strongly expressed their desire not to see Prince Tagoe and Dominic Adiyiah make the cut but Dr Tamakloe added that, the coach knows what he is about and should be left alone to take decisions regarding his selection.
In related development, former Sports minister and now deputy majority leader in parliament, Rasheed Pelpuo says local players must be considered.
Coach Goran Stevanovic is expected to make known his 23 man squad on Thursday in a media conference in Accra.
