The Minister of Interior Martin Hamidu says government will do all it can to facilitate the completion of the Anakaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region to accommodate hardened criminals.
According to him, speeding up work on it, will help avoid further jail breaks.
“We were not anticipating this prison break,” he said, adding that they will expedite action in the building of the Ankafo prison to keep these hardened prisoners.
He said this when he paid a visit to the prison facility on his way from Sekondi where 10 armed robbers broke jail over the weekend.
The prison according to Joy FM’s Central Regional Correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko will house about 2,000 inmates when fully completed.
The prison will also have six blocks, a hospital, stores and school buildings and other important infrastructure that will ensure the reformation of prisoners.
The prison is due to be ready before the end of the year.
