A taskforce from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has conducted targeted operations at multiple illegal mining sites in Hiawa, located within the Amenfi Central District.
This forms part of a continued effort to combat illegal mining.
The operation resulted in the destruction of assorted illegal mining equipment.
This included dismantling makeshift structures, decommissioning water pumping machines, and destroying wooden gold washing platforms, among other materials used in the unlawful activity.

The taskforce has intensified its crackdown in areas where illegal miners have recently reoccupied sites.
These operations target activities that are causing significant environmental damage, including severe harm to local water bodies, deforestation, and the destruction of farmlands.
The crackdown addresses actions taken in complete disregard of national environmental laws and regulatory oversight.
