Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that the government is developing a centralised national health intelligence database aimed at enhancing transparency and supporting evidence-based decision-making across all levels of the health system.
Speaking at the second edition of the World Health Expo Leaders at the Kempinski Hotel on December 9, Minister Akandoh emphasised the critical role of digital innovation in transforming Ghana’s health sector.
“At this stage of our development, digital innovation has become the driving force behind our transformation,” he said. “We are building a centralised national health intelligence database that will allow real-time data analytics, greater transparency, and truly evidence-based decision-making at every level of the health system.”
The minister explained that a national ... layer is being developed, onto which all digital health platforms will be integrated. “This ensures controllability, national ownership of all data generated, and the ability to use that data to improve the lives of our people,” he said.
He further noted that this digital shift is strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency, and making the health system more responsive to the needs of citizens.
“It is enabling us to track diseases faster, allocate resources more efficiently, and hold ourselves accountable to higher standards of performance and transparency,” he added.
He noted that “digital transformation is not an accessory to our reforms; it is the backbone of a modern, sovereign and people-centred health system.”
