A high-level delegation from Abbott, the diagnostics, medical devices, nutrition and branded generic pharmaceuticals specialists, led by the company’s Divisional Vice President for EMEA & Global Accounts, has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to explore new areas of collaboration in diagnostic technology.
The Abbott team outlined the company’s latest innovations, including its recent global acquisition in cancer diagnostics.
They also introduced advanced rapid testing solutions, among them the multiplex panel capable of detecting HIV, syphilis and hepatitis in a single test.

The officials emphasised the importance of continuous innovation for Africa’s disease-control strategies and their ongoing engagement with Ghana’s health sector.
The Health Minister welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening health sovereignty in the face of declining external support for major programmes.

He highlighted the government’s work to close financing gaps, expand treatment coverage and improve prevention of mother-to-child transmission. He also stressed the need for partnerships that deliver clear value and measurable impact.

The Minister encouraged Abbott to maintain a strong and active presence in Ghana’s health sector and to deepen collaboration with national institutions.
He underscored the importance of innovation, equity and global cooperation in tackling diseases that affect communities everywhere.
