Some drivers of heavy duty trucks have urged the police to reverse its decision to restrict movement of trucks in the night. The police earlier rescinded its decision to enforce the ban on movement of heavy duty trucks at night but has re-imposed the ban saying it is the best measure to reduce motor accidents. But the heavy duty drivers believe the ban will bring more trouble. Some of the truck drivers who spoke to Joy News said the ban will make matters worse on the roads. They explain that during the day, the trailers will compete with smaller vehicles and buses which will slow down traffic. They say due to the slow pace of the heavy trucks, the bus drivers who are in a hurry will try to overtake and end up causing a lot more havoc on the road.Meanwhile the National Road Safety Commission which was initially opposed to the ban is advising the drivers to comply with the directive.Director of the commission, May Obiri-Yeboah says the commission believes the directive should be given a try.Even though she is of the view that the law needs a review to reflect the present increase in vehicles on our roads, she wants the drivers to adhere to the law whiles stakeholders examine its effect in the larger interest.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
