The Northern Regional Minister-designate, Ali Adolf John has assured Parliament of his commitment to fostering peace and preventing conflicts in the region.
Speaking during his vetting on Thursday, January 23, Mr Adolf John emphasised the importance of working closely with traditional authorities to maintain stability and avert conflicts.
“The assurance I want to give this house is that I am going to work closely with the traditional authorities. I will ensure that every district, and for that matter every DCE, should not hesitate to report to the regional minister’s office when there is the slightest problem in their district that has to do with security,” he said.
He outlined his plan to hold regular meetings with paramount chiefs to address potential issues proactively.
“Instead of waiting to resolve conflicts, we will rather meet regularly to take decisions that will avert conflict. I will be interested in conflict prevention rather than trying to resolve conflict,” he explained.
He further emphasised his long-term vision for peace in the region.
“One thing I want to be remembered for is peace. I cherish peace so much that, if I’m made the Regional Minister, I don’t want to see any conflict throughout my tenure. I want to build a strong foundation for harmony that may continue even after my regime,” he added.
Mr Adolf John also highlighted his familiarity with the diverse tribes in the region, stating that his experience living among various communities would aid him in fostering unity.
“I have lived among most of the tribes and understand them very well. With the able counseling of the traditional rulers, I will do everything possible to ensure we never see any conflict under my regime,” he assured.
