Stephen Owusu, a head porter, has appeared before the Adabraka District Court for allegedly stealing two mobile phones at Darkuman in Accra.
Owusu is alleged to have snatched the phones from two persons who were recording a fire outbreak at Cable and Wireless, Darkuman, on February 4, 2026.
He has been charged with two counts of stealing, involving an iPhone 12 valued at GH¢2,900 and a Samsung Galaxy valued at GH¢1,200.
Owusu pleaded not guilty.
The Court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢2,000 with two sureties.
He is to reappear on February 17, 2026.
Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, prosecuting, said the complainants were Bismark Osei, a driver’s mate, and Emmanuel Badu, an auto electrician apprentice.
The prosecution said at about 1700 hours on February 4, 2026, a fire outbreak occurred at Cable and Wireless, Darkuman, where members of the public had gathered to observe and record the incident.
It said Owusu allegedly went to the scene under the pretext of assisting victims, snatched the complainants’ phones and handed them to an alleged accomplice who fled.
The complainants raised an alarm and police officers at the scene arrested Owusu and handed him over to the Darkuman Police Station, where a formal complaint was made.
The prosecution said in his caution statement, Owusu admitted taking Emmanuel Badu’s phone but denied taking that of Bismark Osei.
It said he failed to assist the Police to retrieve the phones from the alleged accomplice.
