The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and surrounding communities in the North East Region following the burning of two houses by some youth in the regional capital.
The deployment comes amid threats of further arson attacks and violence against residents, raising security concerns in the area.
According to the Police statement, "the deployment is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and beefing up security in the affected communities as well as enforcing the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government."
In addition, the teams will work closely with the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security patrols along major highways to ensure the safety of commuters and prevent the spread of violence to adjoining areas.
The Police Command has assured the general public, particularly residents of Nalerigu, that investigations into the attacks and the burning of the houses are ongoing. It further pledged that all persons involved in the disturbances will be arrested and brought to justice.
