The Deputy Chairman of operations of the Electoral Commission (EC), Samuel Tettey has stated the Electoral Commission of Ghana is in no position to rig elections for any political party or candidate.
He explained that the electoral process is transparent and involves all stakeholders, particularly political parties, making it difficult for the Commission to skew the process in anyone's favour.
“The electoral process is transparent and contains all the necessary checks and participation of all stakeholders especially the political parties such that rigging an election in Ghana is impossible.”
He also stated that elections are won at the polling stations and not the headquarters of the EC, and encouraged political parties to focus on training their agents to effectively observe the process.
“Parties should train their agents well to observe the process and not blame the EC for outcome of the elections.”
According to him, all political parties must put in place mechanisms to ensure that all polling stations results are collated in order to get the final results for both presidential and parliamentary elections.
He stated that the EC established a comprehensive process for collecting and consolidating election results from all 38,622 polling stations across Ghana.
“All political parties have their agents at each collation centre in addition to the presence of observer groups. If a political party has participated in all the processes and been able to collate results from all the 38,622 polling stations, their results should not be final results that the Electoral Commission will eventually declare?
There is no loophole in the electoral process outlined that will allow the Electoral Commission to rig the elections in favour of any party or candidate.”
