Chief Executive of the luxury hair brand Mami Gyamfua Yeboah says her journey to owning a hair shop was not always smooth sailing.
The 'Oh My Hair' boss shared that it took over four years to secure an actual shop, disclosing that her hair business originally started from her home.
Speaking on Joy Learning TV’s entrepreneurship and career development program, ‘The Career Trail,’ she discussed some of the struggles she faced as a young and emerging entrepreneur.
“No matter what you do, you have to know the basic things of business; entrepreneurship, marketing, being a strategic person, and you also have to gain experience. So you might be in school, but you can also take on a job for the experience."
The entrepreneur insisted that had she acquired the much-needed experience before starting her own business, it would not have taken over four years to own a shop.
“One thing that I’d say is that it took me over four years to open my salon. In as much as I was popular, I didn’t think that it was necessary to have a shop yet. Like I said, I am able to afford all these things now because my business is standing. But if you’re starting out, and that’s another mistake that a lot of people make."
"I have seen a lot of people open up salons and then close up in a year, and it’s not because they are not good at their jobs, but rather because numerous bills are weighing them down. And all this is because they don’t have the experience and financial management skills; how to manage their money.
Madam Yeboah encouraged young and aspiring entrepreneurs to rather start online, touting social media as an effective tool for making money.
