Ghana captain Jordan Ayew says the Black Stars are aiming to achieve big things at this year’s 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia national football team in the tournament scheduled to run from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
Ayew insists the four-time African champions are not travelling merely to participate but to compete and make a strong impression on the global stage.
“We are going to the World Cup to give our very best. We want to put on a show and, hopefully, achieve the results we are aiming for. We are not just going to the USA to make up the numbers.
We will stay humble and focused, and hopefully we can dream of achieving big things. We need positive energy around the team, and we will do everything we can to make the nation proud.”
As part of their preparations, Ghana will play pre-tournament friendlies against Germany national football team and Austria national football team this month before facing Wales national football team in June, nine days ahead of the start of the tournament.
Otto Addo’s side will be hoping to improve on their performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they exited the competition at the group stage.
