Independence Day was celebrated in Kumasi for the first time at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken to social media to wish Ghana a Happy Independence Day at 63.

In a tweet, quoting the third line of the National Pledge, he encouraged Ghanaians to rededicate themselves "...to hold in high esteem, our heritage won for us through the blood and toil of our fathers," as all Ghanaians celebrate the nation's independence.

Ghanaians everywhere have come together across the country and abroad, to celebrate 63 years after Ghana gained independence on March 6, 1957.
