New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has accused former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of orchestrating controversial statements made by Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC.
“He [Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia] is the one behind Abronye’s rants, and I just do not want to say anything,” Mr Agyapong declared.
Mr Agyapong also accused his rivals of seeking to manipulate party structures to their advantage.
“I do not have time for them, but that does not mean they have to rig the election. I believe in the structures, and I know all the Electoral Commission officials my opponents have engaged with. They plan to use the party’s internal security to humiliate anyone who comes close,” he said.
Mr Agyapong said, “I do not have time for Dr Bawumia. In my life, he does not exist, because if he existed, I might commit a crime. That is how I see myself,” he remarked, signalling the personal and political distance he maintains from Dr Bawumia.
Recounting a past incident at the residence of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Agyapong insisted that the events were misrepresented on social media.
“Some time ago, something happened at the residence of former President Akufo-Addo. I mentioned a certain man’s name; there was nobody there when I left. The next day, it was posted on social media, but I do not have anything against anybody,” he explained.
In an interview with Accra-based United Television, Mr Agyapong also expressed disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of recognition for his campaign efforts during the recent elections.
“Did I not campaign for him during the recent election? After that, did he even call me to appreciate my efforts? His followers were even insulting me. The only loyal person from his camp was NAPO. I took him to my warehouse and gave out items freely. He had young boys who claimed that I never campaigned,” he said.
