The traditional ruler of S.D. Dombo's hometown in the Upper West Region, Naa Dombo III, has predicted a decisive victory for former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP's) upcoming primaries in January 2026.
Welcoming Dr. Bawumia to Douri during the former’s campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Dombo III, also predicted that following his expected victory in the NPP primaries, the former Vice President will go on to be elected President of Ghana in the 2028 election.

Dr. Bawumia visited Douri, hometown of the famed politician, S. D. Dombo, who was a former Member of Parliament for the area on the ticket of the Northern People's Party, and also one of the founding members of the NPP's founding tradition, the United Party (UP).
Dr. Bawumia called on the family of the late political icon, and also visited his burial ground.

The family expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his continuous show of respect to the memory of the late icon anytime he visits the area.
Welcoming Dr. Bawumia, Naa Dombo III described him as the "Second S.D. Dombo" with a chieftaincy title of “Naa Lewa” (meaning the chief has returned).
