Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been admitted to hospital following his arrest and questioning by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
His lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, confirmed the development in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.
According to the lawyer, Mr Nkansah’s health deteriorated shortly after his arrest, with a spike in blood pressure and complications linked to a pre-existing bone condition that causes him severe discomfort.
“After his arrest, they noticed he was unwell and had to be sent for medical care. He is currently on admission at the BNI clinic,” Mr Awuah stated.
He added that medical intervention was necessary to stabilise his client while investigations continue.
Mr Nkansah was reportedly taken away on Tuesday in a convoy of three pickup vehicles after NIB officers searched his residence.
The exercise forms part of ongoing investigations into allegations surrounding the sale of government-sponsored foreign scholarships.
Earlier, Mr Nkansah had been invited by the NIB to assist with investigations following instructions from President John Dramani Mahama to probe claims of payments being made to secure state-funded scholarships abroad.
