The second phase of the Land Administration Project (LAP) is supporting the Judicial Service to improve on the adjudication of land cases.

An amount of 2.56million dollars has been allocated to the Judicial Service, to among other things, establish the innovative and specialised land courts in all regions in the country, build the capacity of judges and staff, and provide the needed equipment for the land courts.

This was disclosed by Land and Natural Resources Minister, Alhaji Inusah Fusieini in a speech read on his behalf by the national communication and public outreach specialist, Kweku Sersah Johnson at an orientation workshop for members of the Upper West regional house of chiefs and queen mothers in Wa.

He further disclosed that in line with the directive given to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies by president Dramani Mahama to complete street naming and property numbering by March 2014, the government has provided to the tune of 3.86million dollars  to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for the completion of the exercise.

He said the government has demonstrated a strong commitment towards the eradication of ethnic, gender and geographic inequalities in the country adding that they have moved significantly towards the achievement of sustained and shared development through the use of affirmative action to ensure social equity.

Alhaji Fusieini said the ministry recognises the vital and critical role women play in the administration system.

He however conceded that most women and vulnerable groups are the disadvantaged when it comes to ownership and use of land.

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister said the Land Administration Project will help to address some of these thorny issues and ensure the mainstreaming of gender (particularly women) and the vulnerable in all activities of LAP-2.
