President John Mahama has appointed the former Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722).
This was announced in a release issued by the Secretary to the President on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
According to the statement, the appointment is pending the Constitutionally required advice of the Board of the Authority, provided in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
It further indicated that the appointment takes effect from Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

The appointment follows the resignation of Samuel Awuku as the Director-General of the NLA on January 13, 2025.
In a formal letter addressed to President John Mahama, Mr Awuku expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Director-General since his appointment in August 2021 by the former president, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mr Awuku, now a Member of Parliament emphasised his commitment to his new parliamentary responsibilities and requested the appointment of a successor to ensure a seamless transition at the NLA.
