The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, will officially take up the role of Majority Leader in Parliament today, 23 January, following Dr Cassiel Ato Forson's appointment as Minister for Finance.
Dr Ato Forson’s elevation to the Finance Ministry created a vacancy in the Majority Caucus leadership, paving the way for Ayariga to step into the position.
Recognised for his legal acumen and extensive parliamentary tenure, Ayariga is expected to bring a strategic and pragmatic perspective to leading the Majority.
Over the years, Ayariga has distinguished himself as a steadfast advocate for his constituents and an influential voice in parliamentary discourse.
His leadership is anticipated to focus on promoting unity within the Majority Caucus while driving the government’s legislative priorities.
This transition is part of broader changes to parliamentary leadership following recent ministerial appointments.
Governs Kwame Agbodza, formerly the Majority Chief Whip, has moved to the executive branch as the Roads and Highways Minister designate, leaving another key position open in the Majority front bench.
Additionally, Cape Coast South MP Kweku Ricketts-Hagan will assume the role of Deputy Majority Leader, succeeding Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who has been nominated as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
