President John Dramani Mahama will on Tuesday, October 21, officially launch the $1.5 billion Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) in the Central Region a project described as Africa’s largest Free Zones Industrial Park.
The massive initiative, covering 21,000 acres in the Gomoa Central District, is expected to generate over 60,000 jobs and serve as a hub for manufacturing, agro-processing, logistics, and export services under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Developed by the Ghana Free Zones Authority with support from the AfCFTA Secretariat, the industrial park forms part of President Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Agenda, aimed at driving industrial growth and expanding productivity across sectors.
Ahead of the launch, a pre-event investor briefing was held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. Dignitaries expected at the ceremony include Speaker of Parliament Alban S.K. Bagbin; Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh; Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital, Dr Sam Jonah; Executive Chairman of Safebond Africa Investment Group, Krobo Edusei Jnr.; President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Dwumfour; and Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng.
The Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, described the project as a new model for sustainable industrial development. “This is a complete ecosystem where sustainability and profitability thrive together,” he said.
He added that the zone’s renewable energy infrastructure would ensure “some of the lowest operational costs in the region,” highlighting its strategic location with access to multiple ports and the Lagos–Abidjan Corridor.
