President John Dramani Mahama has called on people worldwide to prioritise peace over conflict, collaboration over confrontation, and hope over despair.
He made the remarks after receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Yonsei University, one of South Korea’s leading universities.
The award, the university said, recognises President Mahama’s exceptional leadership, his contributions to national transformation, economic development, and his efforts in strengthening Ghana-Korea relations.
Before President Mahama delivered his address, an official from Yonsei University expressed gratitude for his visit and the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
“I thank the Korean government and people for the warm hospitality extended to me and my delegation during this visit. I thank the board of trustees, President Yoon, the faculty and staff, and students of Yonsei University for this memorable occasion. And I say in Korean, Gam san nida,” the official said.
President Mahama, in his address, accepted the honour on behalf of all Ghanaians, describing it as a symbol of the mutual respect and friendship between Ghana and South Korea.
“This honour you have bestowed upon me today is one that I accept on behalf of all the people of Ghana as a symbol of the deep respect and mutual relations and admiration that exists between our two countries,” he said.
He urged all leaders and citizens, particularly the youth, to embrace the values of truth, excellence, and cooperation.
“May we all commit ourselves to choosing peace over conflict, cooperation over confrontation, and hope over despair. May we always lead with truth and strive for excellence. And to all the young people in Korea, especially the students of Yonsei University, I say…” he added, highlighting the importance of youth in shaping a more peaceful and collaborative future.
The conferment of the honorary doctorate further strengthens the bonds between Ghana and South Korea and underscores President Mahama’s international stature as a leader committed to peace, development, and diplomacy.
