A technician sustained severe burns and another got injured when an 11KV GRIDCo feeder suffered a blast in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, Thursday morning.
“One technician entered the room to rescue his colleague who was lying down helplessly in the smoky room….he suffered some burns and is at the Sunyani Government Hospital,” a Customer Relations Assistant for NEDCo explained.
Prince Rashid Gyinaye said the technician who was rescued is in critical condition and has been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
He explained that the team was in a room when they heard the blast. They came out to see smoke billowing out of a control room.
“The Fire Service had to break glasses to put out the fire.”
Mr Gyinaye added that the situation has affected power supply to the Sunyani Township.
“But we are working really hard to restore power to the affected areas,” he added.
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) transmits electricity from wholesale suppliers (generating companies) to bulk customers, which include the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Northern Electricity Department (NED) and the Mines.
Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) procures and distributes electricity to the northern Sector of Ghana.
