General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensah Otabil on his critique of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) much espoused free Senior High School (SHS)policy.
Addressing his congregation, Pastor Mensah Otabil said education cannot be free when Ghanaians still pay taxes to the government.
He stated unequivocally that those who believe in such promises that fees will be free, do not understand what goes into the payment of such fees by parents.
Pastor Otabil was certain making secondary education free will compromise quality.
Commenting on the issue on Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said Pastor Otabil has exposed the NPP’s hypocrisy and double standards.
According to him, supposed free SHS policy is a political gimmick meant to deceive Ghanaians just to win power.
General Mosquito indicated that the statement by a highly respected man of God like Pastor Otabil vindicates NDC’s position about the NPP’s educational policy.
He posited that the freebies being promised NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo will cause his defeat the December polls.
He said the Ghanaian electorate has come of age and is able to decipher truth from lies therefore the NPP’s penchant of promising free goodies just to win power will spell doom for the party.
The NDC scribe underscored the need for the country educational sector to be depoliticized to find a lasting solution to the problems that has bedeviled it.
He also reiterated the National Democratic Congress’(NDC) commitment to ensure quality education that would be accessible to all.
“The basic problem facing the country’s educational sector is access not affordability. Access and equitable distribution of resources is very paramount to us in the NDC” he added.
General Mosquito said best approach to advance the educational sector is for all governments to focus on expanding infrastructure, motivating teachers and making it accessible especially at the basic level to all irrespective of stature in society.
He stated that education at the basic level is the foundation of the educational ladder and thus providing resources and expanding infrastructure to accommodate more children as the best way to go.
General Mosquito called on Ghanaians not to be caught in NPP’s web of lies and deceit and vote for the NDC to advance their Better Ghana.
