In arguably the keenest clash yet at the 2016 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Mfantsipim emerged winner after beating defending champions Prempeh College and Wesley Girls Senior High School.
John Amponsah-Tetteh and Victor Makafui Azumah secured victory by three points to give Cape Coast-based Mfantsipim tremendous bragging rights over their rivals.
At the end of the contest: Mfantsipim Sch scored - 64pts while Prempeh College and Wesley Girls' High School scored 61 pts and 52pts respectively.
The emotions were high and raw at the University of Ghana Business School Auditorium where the third quarter-final clash of the day was determined.

Mfantsipim, the winner of the battle of the Methodist schools joins Ghana National College and St. Thomas Aquinas who have already booked their Semi-final place in earlier encounters Thursday morning.

Kumasi-based Prempeh College beat Ashaiman SHS and Winneba SHS in the one-eighth stage last week.

Cape Coast-based giants Mfantsipim also eliminated St. Charles Min. Sem. SHS and New Juaben SHS while prestigious Wesley Girls kicked out Notre Dame and Kwanyako SHS.

Ghana National College beat Presby SHS and Pope Johns to progress while St. Thomas Aquinas beat Mfantsiman and Aggrey Memorial School to qualify.
Of the 134 senior high schools from all regions of Ghana who for close to three weeks have been competing, 27 made it to the quarterfinals.
By virtue of having reached the quarter-finals, these 27 schools would gain automatic qualification to the 2017 edition of the competition, thus skipping the Regional competitions and Preliminary stage of next year’s edition.
The 2016 National Science & Maths Quiz will enter its quarter-final stage on Thursday, June 23, 2016, with contests taking place till Saturday, June 25, 2016.
