The Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old Community Police Assistant (CPA), Bismark Yeboah, in connection with the violent assault of a patient at the Akoti Health Centre in Assin Wurakese, within the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.
Police say Yeboah was part of an irate mob that invaded the health facility and attacked a patient who had earlier been admitted with deep cutlass wounds and had reportedly lost consciousness.
The incident sparked public outrage after footage of the assault circulated widely.
His arrest followed a review of video recordings obtained from the scene, which police say implicated him in the attack.
Investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, the victim, identified as Kenneth Yaw Buabeng, has also been taken into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations after being discharged from the hospital.
Although Mr Buabeng sustained serious cutlass injuries, police have indicated that he is considered the initial aggressor in the altercation.
He is alleged to have attacked the family of one Daniel, who also suffered severe cutlass wounds during the confrontation.
