Major League Soccer (MLS) club New England Revolution have parted ways with Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
The MLS side chose not to exercise the option to extend the veteran center-back’s contract for another year.
Mensah signed for New England in January 2024 after leaving San Jose Earthquakes as a free agent.
He won the Major League Soccer and Campeones Cup as a captain with Columbus Crew in 2020.
The FIFA U20 World Cup winner struggled for form and consistency this season, making only eight appearances as New England failed to reach the playoffs.
He could still could join another club in the MLS as he heads into his ninth year in the MLS.
The Ashantigold Academy graduate has made 190 appearances in the MLS, scoring seven goals and delivering three assists.
He first arrived in the United States to sign for Columbus crew in 2017, after leaving Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. At Columbus, the Ghanaian made 159 appearances, and scored four goals as he captained the club to a first MLS Cup success in 12 years in the 2020 season.
Three years later, the central defender joined San Jose Earthquakes where he spent a year before joining New England Revolution in January this year.
