Muntari and Asamoah in fitness battle

Black Stars midfielders Kwadwo Asamoah and Sulley Ali Muntari have both appealed for calm and assured Ghanaians that they hope to be ready for Ghana's opener against Serbia on Sunday. Speaking exclusively to SA 2010 Fans Diaries in Pretoria, the pair admitted that they were initially concerned that they might not be be fit to face the Europeans at the weekend. However, after a light run out when Ghana beat a select side from Durban 4-0, Asamoah expressed optimism about his fitness battle. ''I had to miss the last training session after i took a knock. It was the wisest thing to do'' The player had to sit out the Stars second training session as a precaution after picking up a knock in training on Monday. Ghana coach Milovan Rajevach has revealed little about his starting line up ahead of Sunday but it would be a major tactical switch if Asamoah does not play behind in form striker Asamoah Gyan. In the instance of Muntari, the left footed Inter Milan midfielder dismissed claims that he was not going to be fit for any of the group matches. "I feel much better after today but i have to work hard to be absolutley fit and ready for the (Serbia) match," he said. The Champions League winner enters this world cup on a high as European champion with fellow African Samuel Eto Fils of Cameroon. Both players confront pressures from different angles back home. The Ghanaian is well aware of recent negative media reports regarding his commitment to the team and kept the topic firmly on being fit to play as soon as possible. Eto on the other hand threatened to quit following an astonishing attack by Cameroon legend Roger Milla who claimed the Indomitable Lions captain has ''done nothing for the national team."
