Hajia Boya Gariba, Deputy Minister of Women and Children’s Affair, has called on Muslims to redefine their strategies and responses in dealing with the many challenges that confront them. She asked Muslims to focus on the economy and developmental situations in the country and its impact on their lives. Hajia Gariba made the call at the inauguration of Holy Green Foundation, a non-governmental organisation in Accra on Saturday on the theme: “The Role of Muslim Organisation in the Development of Our Nation.” She said the high level of poverty, deprivation, unemployment, crime and indiscipline, ethnic conflicts and wars, violence and abuse against women and children and moral corruption were some of the attributes that characterised the society. Hajia Gariba noted that government had put in place many policy interventions to reduce the phenomena and make Ghanaians comfortable, and called for collaborative efforts for the effects to be felt in their lives. Mr Mohammed Abdullah Mahmoud, Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, said for an organisation to succeed it needed to put its activities and plans in order, research on potential members, manage relationship and design approvable proposals. He said it was important for one to have a strategic plan with clear focus and positioning for the organisation, adding that accountability and transparency were also paramount. He urged the executives to try and identify the priorities of members and work to achieve them. Mr Salifu Mahama Mumuni, President of the Foundation, said the establishment was an Islamic organisation founded on the principles of mutual co-operation to enhance the conditions of members and the Muslims community. He said the organisation would see to the promotion of the welfare of its members and ensure an integrated and holistic approach to the social, religious, economic and financial aspirations of affiliates. Mr Mahama Mumuni appealed to the government to support the organisation in its activities to improve on the living conditions of Muslims communities in the country. Source: GNA
