Former Miss Malaika winner Hamamat Montia has revealed that she broke her 15-month relationship with her Finish millionaire boyfriend Versa Keskinen because he was abusive.
She said, “He was very verbally abusive and I wasn’t used to being talked to in that manner and at the time I met him I was about 21.”
According to Hamamat, who was speaking in an interview on Taxi Driver with Blakk Rasta on Hitz FM, her ex-boyfriend is a public figure and virtually enjoyed the media attention.
“Everything we did was publicized and because I am black and he is a millionaire from Finland it was news for them to see someone as powerful as him date a black woman. This man used to live with the media, he wanted them to know everything and it was just too much for me.”
Asked what the most abusive word her ex-boyfriend ever told her, she said “He called me stupid one time and I just couldn’t comprehend.”
“He was very aggressive with his love. It’s like ‘don’t do this don’t do that’ trying to control me and I don’t know if it was because he was way older than me.”
The ex-boy friend accused her of stealing a Toyota Highlander 4WD and sent her to court even while she was married to a new man.
Asked if her current husband is as rich as her ex-boyfriend, she said, “We are blessed, we are happy”.
The beauty queen was very appreciative of the support by her husband and family during the car trial with her then lover.
“My husband has been like my backbone. It was a very difficult time for me. Having a baby and thinking of my kids going on Google and writing my name and seeing that I stole a car, I didn’t know how to answer to any of them but my husband has been there my family has been strong and I thank them a lot that I’m here.”
An Accra High Circuit Court last Thursday ruled that Hamamat Montia, who won the Miss Malaika pageant in 2006, did not steal a Toyota Highlander 4WD she had been accused of stealing.
The court, presided over by Abena Adjin-Doku, held that prosecution had failed to prove that indeed the beauty queen committed the crime and therefore acquitted and discharged her.
Ms Montia had always insisted she was not guilty after she was accused by her ex-boyfriend Versa Keskinen of stealing the vehicle worth $35,000.
