The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has revealed that it is actively monitoring drug kingpins operating within the country and is fully aware of their methods of operation.
Deputy Director-General of NACOC, Alexander Twum-Barimah, disclosed that the Commission has profiled several key figures involved in the illicit drug trade and will take decisive action at the appropriate time.
“Certain key or prime drug centres, we are aware of some people, some individuals behind them. We have done significant work on some of them, and we need to reach a strategic point before we strike,” he said on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show following the airing of JoyNews’ new documentary on drug abuse, Deadly Doses, in Kumasi.

Mr Twum-Barimah emphasised that NACOC’s renewed approach focuses on dismantling drug supply networks rather than targeting individual users, as this would have a more lasting impact on curbing the menace.
“The current leadership of NACOC believes that merely going after users does not address the root problem. Breaking the supply chain is key, once the source is destroyed, there will be nothing for users to buy,” he added.
