The Bono-East Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted three hundred and ninety-seven (397) parcels of substances suspected to be cannabis following a road accident involving a tricycle within the Techiman Metropolis.
At approximately 1405 hours on March 8, the Regional Command received information about a road traffic accident involving a tricycle, locally known as an “Aboboya,” which was transporting sacks of charcoal containing suspected illicit substances.
Officers of the Commission were immediately dispatched to the scene to assess the situation. A search conducted at the accident scene, in collaboration with officers of the Ghana Police Service, led to the discovery of 397 parcels of substances suspected to be cannabis concealed in seventeen (17) sacks of charcoal being conveyed by the tricycle.

The tricycle rider, Mr Robert Tannor, 48 years of age, was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital, Techiman, after sustaining severe injuries in a suspected collision with a mini-van.
The rider, who is currently the only suspect in the case, has been placed under police arrest at the hospital and remains under police guard pending discharge and further interrogation.
All exhibits recovered from the scene have been properly documented and are currently in the custody of the Ghana Police Service, Bono-East Regional Command, pending further investigations.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspected cannabis was being transported from Badu in the Bono Region through the Techiman Metropolis for distribution to unknown destinations.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the substances and other individuals connected to the suspected trafficking network.
The Bono-East Regional Command of NACOC, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has initiated further intelligence-led investigations to identify possible accomplices and financiers linked to the consignment.
The Narcotics Control Commission reiterates its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and abuse and urges the public to support the Commission by providing credible information to aid in the fight against narcotics-related crimes.
