Founder and leader of the New Vision Party, Prophet Daniel Yaw Nkansah, will appear before a Kumasi circuit court Thursday, November 18, 2010.He is alleged to have defrauded some 30 individuals of about 360,000 Ghana cedis under the pretext of securing visas for them.Prophet Nkansah was arrested last week at his hideout in Accra after several months of police search.Police say the accused took the money after convincing the victims of a genuine programme to launch his party in the U.S. and Canada. One of the victims, Edmund Manu has told Nhyira FM that someone who claimed to be an official of the New Vision Party approached him in March this year, with information on a planned launch by the founder in the US and other European countries.According to him, Prophet Nkansah charged each applicants processing fees ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 Ghana Cedis when they met him in his office at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi. After completing payment in April, they were asked to prepare for the trip within two weeks, but this never materialized. The victims reported the matter to the police in Kumasi when they suspected they had been swindled, but the security agents were unable to track Prophet Nkansah until the Greater Accra Police apprehended him last week.Prophet Daniel Nkansah is currently in Police custody. The Police will be praying the court for a remand warrant in order to have room for thorough investigations.Story by Kofi Asante Ennin/Nhyira Fm/Kumasi
