Flabearer of All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayiriga has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of destroying the country's security system.
According to him, the NPP has failed in terms of security because the citizenry feels insecure risks in the country are being compounded rather than abated.
Speaking to Gifty Andoh Appiah on JOYNEWS' 'The Pulse’ Tuesday, Mr Ayariga said government’s decision, as announced by the Interior Minister in Parliament to provide enhanced security for MPs is detrimental to public safety.
“You don’t just pick certain people and give them the nation's security to handle and think that the problem is being solved, because security is for all. We need to train and deploy proper policemen – not party foot soldiers.
"The argument is not about MPs being exposed, because every Ghanaian deserves to have the same security as them. If a Parliamentarian is doing a good job, he's supposed to be loved and not hated. It is when they do other things that they fear" he said.
The APC Presidential candidate further alleged that government has disrupted the attention and leadership of the Police Service by employing "vigilante foot soldiers" as security officers upon assumption of office.
By way of illustration, Mr Ayariga referred to the defunct Delta Forces and claimed that the ruling government was the brain behind its commandeering activities.
He said the APC will enforce better security systems to ensure the safety of the entire populace when voted into power in the December 2020 polls.
"We will put in a National Data System that will capture details of every Ghanaian, including fingerprints, facial recognition and workplaces as well us installing cameras all over the country to beef up security" he said.
