When 44-year-old nurse from Berekum, Daniel Asiedu, received a call saying he had won a weekly cash prize of GH¢20,000in the ongoing Telecel 2Moorch Money Promo, his first instinct was not joy.
Instead, the fear of being kidnapped or sacrificed gripped him.
“I thought it was a ritual killing ring trying to bait me. I have heard stories about people being lured with promises of money, only to disappear. I argued with the caller and told them that I’m not coming anywhere. I know these tricks.”
Daniel’s suspicion wasn’t unfounded. Just a year ago, he had been hacked on another network, losing money and trust in mobile-related offers.
He said he activated the Telecel 2Moorch Money promo last month only because he had won the daily cash prize of GH¢100 in the More Money promo last year. Yet, getting him to believe and accept the GH¢ 20,000 weekly win this time was daunting.
When Telecel Ghana’s Executive Head for Ashanti and Brong Ahafo, Kwaku Asiedu, tried to convince him that his win was real, he resisted strongly.
“I told them, if you want me to believe, put the money in my account first. I’m not going anywhere to be sacrificed,” he recalled, laughing over that memory now.
Something in the calm voice of the Telecel representative during the heated exchange and a small inner voice of curiosity pushed him to finally attend the prize presentation. Even then, he was still suspicious and kept looking around, thinking maybe it was a setup.
Kwaku, who handled Daniel’s win, remembers the ordeal well.
“Even at the cash presentation ceremony, when he was signing the acceptance forms, he was still in doubt. He came with some family members and kept saying, ‘Until the money is in my account, I won’t believe it.’ But when it finally landed, the change of look on his face said it all.”
The moment of truth came when the GH¢20,000 cash reward was transferred into his Telecel Cash account live at the presentation event after the symbolic cheque presentation. For a man who had been a confessed doubting Thomas, it was the turning point.
The Telecel 2Moorch Money promo is the telecommunications giant’s biggest customer reward initiative yet, as over 10,000 of its customers will receive daily and weekly cash rewards before the grand prize announcement of GHC1.2million in September.
As of Friday, 25th July, over 5,500 daily winners have already walked away with GH¢100 each, while 46 lucky weekly winners have each received GH¢20,000, delivered into their Telecel Cash wallets.
Winners have emerged from suburbs and towns across the country, including Hohoe, Accra, Tafo, Kete Krachi, Savelugu, Tamale, Koforidua, Assin Foso, Aburi, Nsawam, Bantama, Konongo, Agona Nwanta and Sefwi, among others.
“Daniel’s transition from fear of ritual scams to the joy of true winnings is exactly why the 2Moorch Money promo exists, which is to positively change lives and connect customers to financial rewards.
"We have over one month more to go, and we are rewarding 120 customers with GH¢100 daily; up to eight winners get to grab GH¢20,000 weekly, and the luckiest Telecel user will take home the life-changing sum of GH¢1.2 million,” said Aneth Muga, Director of Consumer Business at Telecel Ghana.
Open to all active Telecel users, including enterprise customers, Telecel users can opt in by simply dialling *500#, sending ‘WIN’ to 500 or activating it via the Telecel Play app.
Subscribers can then increase their winning chances by purchasing airtime, bundles, or making transactions with their Telecel Cash accounts.
Daniel said the cash prize changed his life almost immediately. He has bought a piece of land within two weeks of winning, a first step toward the home he has always dreamed of.
Now, Daniel is aiming for the grand prize ofGH¢1.2 million to finance his dream home and paint it red in honour of Telecel.
In the meantime, he has become an unlikely ambassador, convincing all his coworkers at the hospital to join the promo.
“I used to doubt these promos, but I can confidently say that Telecel is not ‘azaa’. The 2Moorch Money promo is real, and you could also win GH¢20,000 and change your life, so please join now,” Daniel said, with a convincing tone.
