The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is contesting election results in five Constituencies in the Western Region where it lost parliamentary seats.

The NPP says it is heading to court secure an order to have ballot papers recounted manually or a re-run of elections in these constituencies.

Speaking to Joy News’ Favour Nunoo, NPP Western Regional Secretary, Charles Bissue, explained that the party was surprised when it lost in Ellembelle, Aowin, Suaman, Amenfi Central and Juaboso constituencies.

Mr Bissue said in Suaman for instance, the party was in the lead but surprisingly lost the seat by 12 votes.

“We are going to court [Tuesday], the legal team will meet. We’ve called for all the pink sheets in Takoradi so we are going to look at them,” he said.

“On 7^th of December when the elections were going on, we had our own plans as to the collation of our results which was piloted in Amenfi West, where we got our results by 6:30pm – five hours before the EC got its results, so by 7pm we knew which constituencies we had won,” he adds.

However, the Western Region Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joe Nelson, has dismissed the claims by the NPP.
