Presby Senior High in Nkwatia and Presby Senior High in Osino raised the Presbyterian flag on Wednesday as they progressed to the prelims of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
The Nkwatia-based school qualified in style scoring 52 points.
Mamfe-based Methodist Girls’ who were tipped to give them a run for their money couldn’t live up to expectation, scoring only 25 points.
Closely followed was St. Thomas Senior High and Technical School who obtained 22 points.
Sekyere-based SDA SHS and Kwahu Tafo Senior High were out of the contest, finishing with 13 and 11 points respectively.
In another contest, Osino Presby SHS followed the heroics, of their Nkwatia brethren with a nine-point gap victory over Okuapeman School.
Their 31 points, though fairly lower than that of Nkwatia, is still a win and has guaranteed them a spot at the prelims in June at the University of Ghana campus.
New Abirem SHS and St. Dominic SHTS scored 19 and 17 points respectively to place third and fourth in the contest.
Achiase SHS lagged behind with nine points.
Akwamuman Senior High made sure the Presby schools didn’t walk away with all three available slots for the day.
Despite the 35 impressive points scored by Abetifi-based Presby SHS, Akwamuman SHS hit 50 points to book the qualification spot.
Akwamuman fondly remembered for their tears at the one-eighth stage in 2018, would cherish the chance to right their wrongs.
A misunderstanding between the contestants the 2018 contest, forced them out as one contestant gave a wrong answer to the last question in the contest, while the other had the right answer which would have potentially sent them into the quarterfinal ahead of giants, Holy Child SHS.
“It hurts me to do this…it is not the end of the world boys,” Quiz Mistress Elsie Effah Kaufman told the inconsolable boys that day.
Akim Swedru SHS scored 20 points in Wednesday’s contest and Kibi SHTS followed them with 19.
Suhum Islamic Girls' SHS earned just a single point.
