Ntiamoah Foundation an indigenous non-profit, non-political, non-religious and non-ethnic organisation since its inception in 2006 has continuously assisted underprivileged people in Ghana. The Foundation which began its work in the Eastern Region has its footprint in almost all the regions of Ghana.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
In the year 2006, an industrious and a visionary person by name Mr. Robert Kwaku Appiah Asante whose aim and objective is to give back to God for his kindness and blessings; decided to establish a charity organisation to execute his aim and objective.
He decided to name the organisation after his late mother Veronica Amma Ntiamoah and late grandfather Nana Ntiamoah Kofi whose exemplary lives both inspired him to where he is today; hence the name Ntiamoah Foundation.
Immediately, all the necessary documents were secured from the appropriate authorities to commence the Foundation. The Foundation thereafter has dispensed over GHC 2,000,000 in the provision of educational scholarships to brilliant but needy children, provided educational and health facilities to deserving institutions.
EDUCATION
In the education sector, the Foundation’s objectives are to increase participation and access to education in its operational areas. Over the last decade the Foundation has pursued its educational mandate in the following ways:
• Renovation work at Mamanso Islamic Primary School, including the renovation of a primary school block, screeding of floors and provision of 20 dual desks.
• Renovation work at Afosu Islamic JSS including roofing, building classroom enclosures and provision of 50 dual desks.
• Establishment of an ICT Centre at New Abirem Akwadum D/A Model School with 40 personal computers and accessories.
• Recruitment of instructors and maintenance of computers for the New Abirem ICT centre
• The Foundation has been operating a Scholarship Scheme since 2006. Till date; a total of 60 students from the catchment area have benefitted, while another 45 outside of the catchment area have also benefitted, bringing the total to 105 students covering all areas of education.
• Ntiamoah Foundation donated teaching/Learning materials to selected Kindergartens namely Hweakwae Roman Catholic Primary school, Yayaaso District Assembly Primary School, Mamanso Islamic Primary School and Ntronang Primary schools.
• Construction of the Kibi Livestock Project is aimed at training and equipping visually impaired persons in livestock production to provide them with a source of income. This project was inaugurated by Ntiamoah Foundation with a financial input of GHC 30,000, which is currently under the management of the Ghana Blind Union.
To enhance educational planning and supervision in the district, Ntiamoah Foundation has been supporting the District Education Service as follows:
• A Donation of Raincoats and Wellington boots to the Birim North District Education Office for distribution to their circuit supervisors and trekking officers to better facilitate supervisory duties during the rainy season.
• Donation of three computers and accessories, to the Birim North District Education Office, also, six Table top Fridges were donated to the Birim North Education Office to support their Teachers’ Awards Day.
• In addition, support was given to Birim North Education Office in the administration of the January 2008/9 Mock examination for BECE candidates.
HEALTH
The Foundation’s objective for health rest on improving health delivery services in the district and promoting community outreach programmes.
Some projects executed in this area include donation of medical/surgical apparatus/materials and medicines; periodic supply of foreign medical personnel and organisation of outreach programmes.
Key achievements:
• Donation of an Ambulance to the Ministry of health for the New Abirem Government Hospital.
• A number of regular donations were made to various hospitals and Community Health Planning System (CHPS) centres in and outside the catchment areas. (Ntronang St Micheal Clinic, Afosu CHPS Centre, Tema SOS Children’s Village, Osu Children’s’ Home, Dzowulu Special School, to mention a few)
• The medical items donated included: Blood Pressure Monitors, Stethoscopes, Microscopes, Suction machines, Surgical instruments and pans, Delivery trays and Kangaroo 324 Feeding Pumps/ Manuals, Ambu-bags, VPAP 11 Bi- Level Machines and C/R Monitors w/pt cable and electrodes, Weighing scales, suction bulbs, urinary kits, sterile gloves, glucometers and thermometers, Hanging Scales for Babies, Emerson’s Basins, Leukomed T Plus transparent wound band plasters, Towels, dressing, surgical blades, spatula, Needles and syringes, Nurses dresses, Magazine shelf, supply cart, lamps and chairs, Light surgical equipment and materials, Medicines (various), Hospital Beds, Birthing Beds and Bed sheets, Hospital Trolleys, Paediatric Wheelchair, Stretchers, Operation Tables, Ward screen Partitions, bedside cabinets, Fridges, wall clocks, curtains, detergents and disinfectants Theatre Dresses, Complete Digital X-Ray Equipment to the Atibie Government Hospital
• In collaboration with the Ghana Hope Foundation (USA) and the Willamette Valley Medical Centre of USA, Ntiamoah Foundation continues to provide free surgery and medical care to residents of its catchment areas and outside of it. Medical personnel from Willamette Valley Medical Centre (USA) have since 2010 to date, visited the country at the New Abirem Government Hospital to be precise, on five occasions at the request of Ntiamoah Foundation. All expenses related to these yearly visits are borne by Ntiamoah Foundation, except shipping or air freighting of medical items donated by the team- this is usually undertaken by Newmont Mining Company. However last year alone Ntiamoah Foundation paid USD$25,000 for shipment of Medical items from the Ghana Hope Foundation (USA) to the New Abirem Government Hospital.
• Ntiamoah Foundation has organised a few outreach programs for the communities since its inception. This includes the Malaria Outreach Program which benefitted a total of four schools in its catchment area, sixty members from communities across Birim North district also benefitted from the support for people living with HIV (PLWHA).
• Ntiamoah Foundation paid for the registration of (1,344) one thousand three hundred and forty-four needy people from (52) fifty-two communities in the Birim North and Akyimansa Districts to enable them benefit from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
• Ntiamoah Foundation has supported the Birim North District Health Directorate in carrying out outreach programs through the supply of DVDs, Televisions and personal computers.
• The Foundation has for the past three years adopted the Maternity ward of the New Abirem Government Hospital and has fully furnished it.
MOVING FORWARD
What has inspired Ntiamoah Foundation to lend a helping hand to more needy persons and underprivileged institutions/communities for the past decade has been Mahatma Gandhi’s saying that: the hand that serves is holier than the lips that pray. Therefore, we will continue to strive to affect more lives in the area of both education and health.
