A tragic road accident on the Worawora–Abotoase Highway in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region has claimed the life of a male nurse.
The deceased, identified only as Alidu, a staff nurse at the Worawora Government Hospital, reportedly died on his way from Tapa Abotoase to Worawora on a motorbike to perform his night duty.
He collided head-on with a commercial taxi travelling in the opposite direction.
The fatal crash occurred between 1930 hours and 2000 hrs, near Dzogbekope and Tapa Amanfrom.
According to eyewitnesses, Alidu attempted to overtake a VIP bus in a sharp curve.
In the process, his motorcycle veered into the path of the oncoming taxi, resulting in a deadly head-on collision.
The impact was severe, and the young nurse reportedly died instantly at the scene.
A police officer, Sergeant Avevor Charles, who was also on his way to night duty at Apesokubi, arrived at the accident scene, quickly alerted the Tapa Abotoase Police Command, who responded to the emergency.
The taxi driver, who was alone in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries to his arms and face and was rushed to the Abotoase Health Centre for medical treatment, while Alidu’s remains were conveyed to the Worawora Government Hospital morgue.
News of the tragedy sent shockwaves through the community, with relatives of the deceased travelling from Accra and the northern part of Ghana to Tapa Abotoase to see to the burial.
In line with Islamic tradition, the late nurse has been laid to rest at the Tapa Abotoase cemetery amidst deep grief and sorrow.
Officers of the Ghana Police Service declined to comment on the matter immediately, but the case remains under investigation at the Tapa Abotoase Police Command.
