Former FA boss Nyaho Tamakloe has slammed the use of foreign-born players in the Black Stars in the wake of the humiliating snub Kevin Prince Boateng dealt the West African country. Ghanacoach Goran Stevanovic has handed debut call-ups to Charles Takyi and Jeffery Schlupp for this week’s friendlies against Sierra Leone and Gabon. This comes just three days after the German born Boateng snubbed the Black Stars saying he is concentrating on his career with AC Milan. Boateng’s decision has sparked anger among Ghana fans who think he used his association with the Black Stars at the World Cup to get the move to AC Milan. Nyaho says the use of Ghanaian players born will be detrimental to the Black Stars as such players have no commitment to the country. “The basic reason why he [Goran Stevanovic] was brought in here is to be able to identify talent, train them and use them in the Black Stars,” he told JoySports. “This craze of always looking for players this country who have not been trained here, who even though are Ghanaians by birth but have different cultural backgrounds will not work for this country. The Kevin-Prince Boateng case is a perfect example.” Despite Nyaho’s argument, Ghana’s football history is littered with examples of players born in the country quitting the national team. The great Ghana legend Abedi Pele quit the Black Stars in 1986 after some bad officiating against Liberia claiming he will not play for the country again. But he returned to lead the country and played with all his heart for the Black Stars. Sulley Muntari also quit the Black Stars and returned to help the country to play in two World Cups while after suffering abuse from fans Asamoah Gyan threatened to quit the Black Stars.
