A new Sachet Water Producing module under the National Youth Employment Policy (NYEP) was over the weekend out-doored in Cape Coast as part of the self employment business initiative of the Programme. Mr Patrick Aniagye, a Presidential Aid, who represented the Central Regional Minister Mrs. Ama Benyiwa –Doe, launched the module with the presentation of 17 sachet water machines and 17 poly-tanks to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly for onward distribution to the other districts. In a speech read on her behalf, Mrs Benyiwa-Doe advised those employed under the module to ensure that the sachet water production met the technical requirements of the Ghana Standards Board. She entreated managers of the project to be transparent by putting in place a prudent accounting system to enable them reap the full benefits of the project and include environmental management in its orientation and training workshops to ensure a holistic success of the pilot project. The Regional NYEP Coordinator, Nana Oseibi, said the machine valued at GHS 2,600 will be loaned to all 17 districts in the region on GHS 700 monthly installment payment. He indicated that the project will only be replicated in other regions based on its success in the Region, and therefore charged all district directors to be vigilant and maximize the efficiency of the machines. Nana Oseibi advised against “the blatant refusal (by some Ghanaians) to pay government loans” and urged them to work hard to reap the full benefits of the profit making project to enable them pay back loans. Mr Peter Dery, Coordinating Director of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly who chaired the ceremony, said Central Region was one of the two beneficiaries of the project and stressed that it was an enormous challenge to the region to ensure its success. He urged all managers as well as the workers to actively participate in the training and orientation workshop to acquire the requisite technical skills needed to effectively operate the machines.
