Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has disclosed that the government has cleared all outstanding payments related to the Ofankor–Nsawam road.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, September 4, after inspecting the project with President John Mahama the previous day, Mr Agbodza revealed that $77 million has been paid, leaving no financial obligations on the government’s part.
One of the show hosts, Wiston Amoah, asked, "Under your tenure, how much has been paid so far (to the contractor)?"
The minister responded, "In excess of $77 million. So as of today, we don't owe the contractor a penny; every certificate raised, which was outstanding before we came to power, based upon which they abandoned the site, we have paid fully."
He expressed optimism that with the financial hurdle resolved, work on the major highway should progress swiftly.
During the tour, President Mahama urged the contractor to expedite construction and deliver the project within the stipulated timeline, stressing that delays would not be tolerated.

President Mahama disclosed that the contract has been moved under the government’s Big Push programme, with GH¢14 billion allocated to the Big Push this year and an additional GH¢30 billion expected next year, noting that there will be sufficient resources to keep the contractors going.
